Research Project: Studies of Fungicide Efficacy and Ground and Aerial Fungicide Application Techniques for Fhb Control in North Dakota

Location:

Project Number: 500-53-002-07
Project Type: Grant

Start Date: May 05, 2004
End Date: May 04, 2005

Objective:
Evaluate uniform fungicide and biocontrol trials across multiple North Dakota sites and grain classes. Refine application technologies to optimize fungicide efficacy against FHB. Combine the resources and expertise of three universities and one USDA, ARS project to study commercial ground and aerial application techniques that may improve applications.

Approach:
Establish a core set of uniform treatments to evaluate products and methods for consistency in performance across a number of environments and grain types affected by FHB. Fungicides tested will include a standard triazole treatment, several experimental compounds showing good results in 2002 and 2003 plus one or more promising biological agents. Evaluate timings of applications in relationship to inoculum events, environmental conditions, and use of split rates and timings, using one to several applications of fungicide and multiple infection events.
