Research Project:
ANTAGONISTS TO CONTROL GRAM NEGATIVE ENTEROPATHOGENS
Location:
RICHARD B. RUSSELL RESEARCH CENTER POULTRY MICROBIOLOGICAL SAFETY RESEARCH
Project Number: 6612-32000-030-01
Project Type:
Specific C/A
Start Date: Aug 01, 2003
End Date: Jan 31, 2005
Objective:
Produce, purify, encapsulate and deliver to ARS bacteriocins for pathogen challenge trials in live poultry.
Approach:
Using bacterial isolates from animal production environments, determine and identify strains antagonistic to Salmonella and human pathogenic E. coli and characterize the most important bacteriocins. Assure the viable producing and inducing cultures responsible for expression of the five bacteriocins are delivered properly to ARS.
