New Acupuncture Bibliography Available

A new bibliography on acupuncture has been prepared in support of a National Institutes of Health (NIH) Consensus Development Conference on Acupuncture held in Bethesda, MD on November 3-5, 1997. It was compiled to help answer the question of whether, based on the clinical data, acupuncture point therapy is likely to be helpful for a given clinical problem. The bibliography was produced by staff at the National Library of Medicine (NLM) and the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) not only for conference attendees but also for physicians, acupuncturists, and others interested in this alternative medicine technique.

Acupuncture covers the period from January 1970 through October 1997 and contains 2,302 citations to journal articles, books and book chapters, and conference proceedings and papers. Arrangement of the bibliography is primarily by clinical application, such as in the cardiovascular system or for headache. It is a valuable resource because citations were located not only by searching a variety of medical databases, but also by hand-searching the entire collection of the National Library of Medicine for acupuncture journals which are not indexed.
