MINORITY BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT AGENCY RECIEVES
GOLD MEDAL AWARD
FOR LEADERSHIP
On Tuesday, November 9, 2004, the Secretary of Commerce, Donald L. Evans,
awarded The Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA) the Gold Medal Award for Leadership.
The DOC Gold Medal is the highest honorary award granted by the Secretary and is
defined as distinguished performance characterized by extraordinary, notable or
prestigious contributions that impact the mission of the Department.
MBDA received the Gold Medal for its reorganization and transformation from
an administrative agency culture to an entrepreneurial organization. The challenge
MBDA faced was how to reinvent itself to address the new needs of its clients,
and continue to provide quality customer service in a changing environment.
The result will provide millions of dollars for new financing and contracts
to minority-owned firms, foster growth, and demonstrate the Department’s
commitments to ensuring minority enterprises are viable stakeholders.
