There are many meetings and numerous requests for public comment on NIEHS' research plans, its budget priorities and the use made of NIEHS' findings. NIEHS Budget Priorities - Review the testimony regarding the most recent Fiscal Year.

Nomination of chemicals - for review as possible causes of cancer by the National Toxicology Program, which is headquartered at NIEHS. (PDF file - download the Acrobat Reader)

Research Centers - Identify the nearest center where research is conducted on your health and your environment.

Lectures and meetings - When in the Washington, D.C., area or in North Carolina, check for events that may interest you. NIEHS' campus is in Research Triangle Park, NC, between the university cities of Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill.

NIEHS' National Advisory Council on Environmental Health Sciences - You can attend meetings of this group that reviews NIEHS' and NTP's work. The council has both scientists and laypersons as members. Nominations for the council should be sent to:

Council on Public Representatives - While NIEHS has citizen representatives on its panels, you can also provide your input to this group located at NIEHS' parent National Institutes of Health.

Clinical Trials - ClinicalTrials.gov, a consumer-friendly database, has information on federal and private medical studies involving patients and others at thousands of locations nationwide. Includes opportunities, mostly in the Washington, D.C., area, to participate.

NIH Get Involved Website - listing of NIH Public Bulletin, Public Input and Participation, Health Programs and Campaigns, etc.

Private Organizations - with an interest in NIEHS' work. These include the American Lung Association, the National Association of Physicians for the Environment and others.

U.S. Senators and Representatives - names and addresses of those who vote on your behalf for NIEHS' programs.

The Foundation for the National Institutes of Health. The purpose of the Foundation is to support the mission of the NIH, which is to develop new knowledge through biomedical research. Specifically, the Foundation fosters collaborative relationships in education, research, and related activities between NIH, industry, academia, and non-profit organizations; supports basic and clinical research to advance medical knowledge; supports training and advanced education programs for the investigators of tomorrow; and invests in educational programs about medical research.
