Because this illness is rare, many brain tumor patients lack access to brain tumor conferences and support groups, and therefore, have never had the opportunity to hear or meet others who share similar experiences. For the homebound, telephone conferences can offer an ideal opportunity to obtain information and support. With this in mind, the Brain Tumor Society periodically holds free nationwide teleconferences on issues of support and education, in which everyone has the opportunity to participate and submit questions.
These are convenient in that they are conducted by telephone, don’t involve any travel and are free of charge. The teleconferences that we sponsor are facilitated by clinical and medical professionals who have an expertise in topics of interest to brain tumor patients, survivors, and caregivers. A question and answer period is usually allowed at the end of each teleconference. We often collaborate with other organizations, including a co-sponsored teleconference entitled Brain Tumors and Bereavement: Healing After Loss. Other teleconferences have have dealt with issues such as Fatigue and Brain Tumors and Choosing and Managing Brain Tumor Treatment.
The Brain Tumor Society is interested in hearing your ideas for future teleconferences. To make a suggestion or to find out more about upcoming teleconferences, please contact Sarah Duggan, LICSW at 800.770.TBTS (8287) or support@tbts.org.
