Improving the Efficacy of Pediatric Cancer Trials
One of the most challenging aspects of conducting clinical trials in pediatric populations is making decisions about which of the many new anticancer agents under development to test. Although treatment of childhood cancers is one of the most remarkable success stories in all of medicine - nearly 80 percent of children diagnosed with cancer survive 5 years or more - if we are to expand on that progress and ensure that every child who develops cancer has a legitimate chance of survival, we must address this issue.

The cancer Biomedical Informatics Grid (caBIG) Initiative - Designing and Deploying a Novel, Community-Based Cancer Research Platform
caBIG is a new initiative coordinated by NCI in partnership with other members of the cancer research community. caBIG seeks to create a network that links organizations, institutions, and individuals to enable the sharing of cancer research infrastructure, data, and tools. It is an open-access, open-source activity that promises to expedite progress in cancer research.

It was developed by the National Institute on Aging and the National Library of Medicine, with information from NCI and other components of NIH. The Nation's Investment in Cancer Research for Fiscal Year 2005
Each year, as mandated by the National Cancer Act of 1971, NCI prepares a plan for building on research successes, supporting the cancer research workforce with the technologies and resources it needs, and ensuring that research discoveries are applied to improve human health. This annual plan and budget proposal is provided directly to the President of the United States for formulating the budget request to Congress.
