Questions
answered on this page:
What
is CASA?
Clinic Assessment
Software Application (CASA) is a menu-driven database containing
multiple functionalities which can be used to select a random sample
of pediatric records, abstract data to assess immunization levels,
and produce a variety of reports to help clinical staff diagnose
service delivery problems and improve the quality of patient care.
Some diagnostic features include analysis of missed opportunities,
dropout rates, and late starts for vaccinations.
What
is VFC-CASA?
VFC-CASA was created to provide
CASA users with an additional assessment method, Hybrid. Currently,
only the Hybrid option within the VFC-CASA software is useful to
immunization programs. The other options within the VFC-CASA software
include an old version of the VFC provider site visit questionnaire,
a module titled "Classic CASA" and a module titled "Mini-CASA".
These other three options are all outdated and should not be used.
For current recommendations on Assessment options, please refer
to information on Assessment, Feedback, Incentives and eXchange
(AFIX) Assessment
Methods.
What
is Hybrid?
The Hybrid method uses
a small sample of 30 records in the 19-35 month age group to rapidly
assess immunization coverage levels by comparing outcomes of the
sampled records to a certain threshold level. The results
tell a practice if they are above or below the established threshold,
rather than providing an actual immunization coverage level.
Although it takes less time to conduct, the Hybrid method does not
provide diagnostic results like the standard assessment methods.
Where
can I find the traditional CASA software?
The stand-alone software
can be downloaded from the CDC CASA website at www.cdc.gov/nip/CASA
