Spotlight

Capitol Holiday Tree

The picture is of the Capitol Holiday Tree from 2002.  The tree was a 70 foot Douglas Fir from the Umpqua National Forest in Oregon.

The Commonwealth of Virginia has been given the honor of providing the 2004 Capitol Holiday Tree with participation from the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests.

On its way to Washington, the tree will be taken to 33 communities around the state. Its journey will end on the Capitol lawn Nov. 29th. more »

Quick Facts

Scientists at the Forest Products Laboratory partnered with the U.S. Postal Service to develop an adhesive that wouldn’t gum up recycling equipment. The result is the adhesive now found on ‘lickless’ stamps. This innovation allows 20 million more tons of waste paper to be recycled in the U.S. annually.
