Career Development Program (CDP)
Mentoring the Next Generation of GIs
The AGA Career Development Program (CDP) is a one-on-one mentoring initiative
committed to furthering the careers of young GIs. The CDP matches junior gastroenterologists
with more senior, established colleagues who share common areas of interest
in the field, or who can mentor the trainee in their specific area of need.
Since 1997 the CDP has brought together many successful mentoring pairs and
shared important information and educational tools to aid career advancement
and professional development.
Both members of the mentoring pair (the "Mentor" and the "Mentee")
maintain an ongoing relationship through meetings, via telephone, fax and
e-mail. And the program affords benefits for both the Mentor as well as
the Mentee:
- Career support and encouragement
- New strategies for improving practice
or research
- Enhanced professional visibility
- Expanded professional contacts
- New collaborative opportunities
- Satisfaction of helping junior colleagues
develop careers
