The USA Freedom Corps Volunteer Network is the most comprehensive
clearinghouse of volunteer opportunities ever available. For the first time
in history, Americans can enter geographic information about where they want
to get involved, such as state or zip code, and areas of interest ranging
from education to the environment, to access volunteer opportunities offered
by a range of partner organizations across the country or around the world.
If you are an individual nonprofit organization or a local, state or
federal agency and would like your volunteer opportunities to appear on the
USA Freedom Corps Volunteer Network, you can post them with one of the
partner service organizations below.

AmeriCorps
is a national grant program that supports national service by helping
more than 50,000 Americans each year participate in intensive service to
meet critical needs in education, public safety, health, and the
environment. AmeriCorps members serve through more than 2,100 nonprofit
organizations, public agencies, and faith-based organizations. They
tutor and mentor youth, build affordable housing, teach computer skills,
clean parks and streams, run after-school programs, and help communities
respond to disasters on a full-time or part-time basis. Created in 1993,
AmeriCorps is part of the Corporation for National and Community
Service. |

The President's new
Citizen Corps initiative
supports volunteer service by engaging individuals in promoting the
safety of our communities. Through Citizen Corps Councils, the program
brings together leaders from law enforcement, fire, emergency medical
and other emergency management, volunteer organizations, local elected
officials, and the private sector to help them coordinate and engage
citizens in homeland security and for promoting community and family
safety. Citizen Corps includes new and existing federally-sponsored
programs and other activities that share the common goal of helping
communities prevent, prepare for and respond to crime, disasters,
pressing public health needs and emergencies of all kinds. Through
Citizen Corps, Americans can take an active role in building safer,
stronger and better-prepared communities one neighborhood at a time! |

Hands On Network
(formerly CityCares) is a growing, innovative alliance of volunteer
mobilization and management organizations providing best practices,
leading-edge programs, influence in national service policy, technology
support and leadership development. Hands On Network organizations
around the world are transforming people and communities through
volunteer service and civic engagement. |

Idealist.org is a project of Action Without Borders, a nonprofit
organization that works to connect people, organizations and resources
to help build a world where all people can live free and dignified
lives. Organizations in 153 countries around the world use
Idealist.org
to promote their programs and volunteer opportunities. |

America is at the forefront of the service learning movement,

The National Mentoring Partnership exists for 15.7 million
reasons -– each one for a young person with the potential to offer great
things. Mentoring can unleash that potential by pairing young people
with caring adults to guide and encourage them. We see evidence of that
every day in thousands of communities across the country. The National
Mentoring Partnership provides resources and tools mentoring
organizations need to effectively serve young people in their
communities, and brings thousands of mentoring opportunities to the USA
Freedom Corps Volunteer Network. |

Network for
Good is an independent 501(c)3 working to advance e-philanthropy
and nonprofit adoption of the Internet as a tool for fundraising,
volunteer recruitment and management, and civic engagement. Network for
Good was founded by a consortium of leading nonprofits and three leading
Internet companies, including the AOL Time Warner Foundation and AOL,
Inc.; the Cisco Foundation and Cisco Systems, Inc.; and Yahoo! Network
for Good is the place to donate, volunteer, and speak out on the issues

The Peace Corps
engages men and women 18 years and older to serve internationally for
two years working in business development, health and HIV/AIDS, the
environment, education, agriculture, and information technology. Peace
Corps volunteers share their skills with people at the grass-roots level
to help solve some of the most important challenges that face
communities in the developing world. |

The Points of
Light Foundation works to engage more people more effectively in
volunteer community service to help solve serious social problems. It is
a nonpartisan nonprofit organization that works in communities
throughout the United States through a network of over 500 Volunteer
Centers. More than 350 American communities have Points of Light
Member Volunteer Centers. These Volunteer Centers provide essential,
locally-based infrastructure to support volunteering. Their work is
focused in four core areas: connecting people with opportunities to
serve, building capacity for effective local volunteering, promoting
volunteering, and participating in strategic initiatives to mobilize

Senior Corps
helps more than half a million volunteers ages 55 and older to serve
through its Foster Grandparent, RSVP and Senior Companion programs. It
is a national service program of the Corporation for National and
Community Service and it enables volunteers to use their experience and
skills to assist local organizations and meet a wide range of community
needs. |

Youth
Service America works through an alliance of more than 300
organizations committed to increasing opportunities for young Americans
to serve. Youth Service America's SERVEnet is an online service and
resource center that links volunteers of all ages to causes in their
communities. Users enter their zip code, city, skills, interests, and
availability and are matched with organizations that need help from
young people. |

United Way
of America is the national organization dedicated to leading the
United Way movement in making measurable impact in every community
across America. The United Way movement includes approximately 1,400
community-based United Way organizations. Each is independent,
separately incorporated, and governed by local volunteers. United Way
Volunteer Solutions helps people who want to make an impact in their
community find meaningful volunteer opportunities. |

Volunteer.Gov/Gov
consolidates volunteer opportunities available in the public sector,
including: the U.S. Department of the Interior, U.S. Department of
Agriculture, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the State of New York
Division of Veterans Affairs. This online service lets prospective
volunteers match their interests and abilities with available
opportunities nationwide through searches based on volunteer activity,
location of opportunity, effective date of the opportunity, the
sponsoring partner and by keyword search. In the future, Volunteer.Gov/Gov
will expand to include other channels for volunteer service to all
levels of government. |

VolunteerMatch
is an online service that matches prospective volunteers with service
opportunities in their communities. People enter them with zip code,
area of interest, and distance they're willing to travel, VolunteerMatch
presents an extensive list of opportunities to get involved. The site
also contains direct links to service opportunities at large national
organizations such as the American Red Cross, United Way, Salvation
Army, and Goodwill Industries. |
