Results of the 2003 Jamestown Christmas Bird Count

On 17 December 2003, 16 individuals participated in the annual Jamestown Christmas Bird Count. Participants traveled 4.0 party miles (3.75 party hours) by horseback, 18.9 party miles (15.5 party hours) on foot, and 432.6 party miles (36.75 party hours) by car. Noteworthy species included a Northern Goshawk, a Sharp-shinned Hawk, 59 American Robins, six Northern Shrikes, and a Brown Thrasher. On Count day, participants observed 4,561 individual birds of 45 species. A Red-bellied Woodpecker, a Varied Thrush, a Great Blue Heron, and a Short-eared Owl were observed during the week of the Count (cw) but not on the day of the Count. Northern Prairie Wildlife Research Center of the U.S. Geological Survey provided vehicles for travel. Thanks to everyone who participated!
