Science Ambassador Program

Partners of the Science Ambassador Program

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is recognized as the lead federal agency for protecting the health and safety of people at home and abroad, providing credible information to enhance health decisions, and promoting health through strong partnerships. CDC serves as the national focus for developing and applying disease prevention and control principles and practices and health promotion and education activities designed to improve the health of the people of the United States.

CDC's mission is to promote health and quality of life by preventing and controlling disease, injury, and disability. CDC seeks to accomplish its mission by working with partners throughout the nation and world to monitor health, detect and investigate health problems, conduct research to enhance prevention, develop and advocate sound public health policies, implement prevention strategies, promote healthy behaviors, foster safe and healthful environments, and provide leadership and training. Visit the CDC website at www.cdc.gov for more information.

The National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities (NCBDDD) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) seeks to promote optimal fetal, infant, and child development; prevent birth defects and childhood developmental disabilities; and enhance the quality of life and prevent secondary conditions among children, adolescents, and adults who are living with a disability.  To read more about specific programs, please visit http://www.cdc.gov/ncbddd.

Georgia Education Initiatives are collaborations between the Georgia Department of Education and other agencies in Georgia to provide quality instructional materials to educators.

Georgia Learning Connections is the Georgia Department of Education's free curriculum Web site.  It includes the quality core curriculum standards, lesson plans, Web resources, video and interactive multimedia, and assessments.  The Web site also provides educators with a searchable online library containing thousands of informational documents, reviewed and categorized Internet resources, templates, and online tools. Additional services include a lesson plan and activity builder with a portfolio component and a professional development center.

The Georgia Department of Education and GLC have formed partnerships called Georgia Education Initiatives (GEI) with nonprofit, specialized organizations like CDC and with educational entities like the Georgia Council on Economic Education to provide and promote educational resources and programs for teachers. A section of GLC is dedicated to GEI and specific Web pages have been created to highlight the partnering entities and their resources. These partnerships provide a wealth of curriculum materials and professional development opportunities for teachers throughout the state, thereby increasing access to resources and, hopefully, improving student achievement.

To visit GLC and to browse the range of GEI partnerships and shared resources, please access the following links.
