Science Ambassador Program

Becoming a Science Ambassador

Thank you for your interest in becoming a Science Ambassador! This is a great opportunity for middle school and high school science teachers to broaden their knowledge on exciting scientific public health topics. If you participate in this program, you will have the opportunity to learn from eminent Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) scientists about relevant public health topics. Teachers will be asked to participate in an intensive workshop during the summer. The workshop will feature presentations given by CDC scientists on topics such as folic acid, birth defects, genetics, fetal alcohol syndrome, epidemiology, and surveillance. Teachers will also receive training from educational experts at Georgia Learning Connections (GLC). During the workshop and following this instruction, teachers will develop a required number of lesson plans for their students that are based on the presentations. In addition, teachers will be asked to implement and evaluate several of the lesson plans.

This program will allow teachers to become involved in creating new and exciting lessons, enhance their knowledge of the scientific basis of public health, and expand their professional network to include scientists at CDC’s National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities and education experts at GLC.
