Science Ambassador Program

Becoming a Lecturer for the Science Ambassador Program

Our center has well-documented scientific issues that could provide excellent educational opportunities for teachers and students.  Working with teachers around the nation, we can effectively promote the health of babies, children, and adults, and enhance the potential for full, productive living.  While we have the scientific expertise, teachers have the educational background to create effective lesson plans and classroom activities.  The Science Ambassador Program partners your public health expertise with teachers’ educational expertise to create innovative, relevant, and exciting lesson plans for middle and high school students.  Teachers will develop lesson plans on your topics!  At the completion of the program, teachers will have developed and tested two to six lesson plans for middle and high school students based on your presentation!

The Science Ambassador Program is a chance for you to work directly with the public and affect teachers and students in a positive manner and to foster a love for various public health programs in both teachers and students.  You will be helping to develop a cadre of dynamic and committed public health professionals.

If you are interested in participating in the Science Ambassador Program, please contact Heather Carter at HCarter@cdc.gov  or 404-498-4080 for more details.

What you will gain:

  • Lesson plans that have been developed and tested by exemplary teachers.
  • A chance to partner with the educational community, including:
    • A venue to test future materials targeting adolescents,
    • A chance to reach adolescents with important public health messages, and
    • A chance to integrate public health topics into core science education.
