The following is a release by the United States Geological Survey, National Earthquake Information Center: A major earthquake occurred NEAR THE WEST COAST OF COLOMBIA about 95 km (60 miles) north northwest of Buenaventura or about 395 km (240 miles) west of Bogota at 2:06 AM MST, Nov 15, 2004 (4:06 AM local time in Colombia).
The magnitude and location may be revised when additional data and further analysis results are available.
No reports of damage or casualties have been received at this time; however, this earthquake may have caused damage due to its location and size.
Two people seriously injured, several others slightly injured, at least 317 buildings destroyed and
112 damaged at Pizarro. Four people injured at Pereira. Three people injured and at least 39 houses
destroyed or damaged at Buenaventura. Some buildings damaged at Cerrito, El Cairo, Jamundi and
Restrepo. Some damage and power and telephone service interrupted at Cali. Power interrupted at
Bogota. Felt at Armenia, Quibdo and in much of western and central Colombia.
