The Office of Minority and Women's Health (OMWH) is
a staff-run office of the Bureau of Primary Health Care (BPHC), established
in 1994 to improve the health care of underserved minorities and women
served by the Bureau programs. The BPHC is one of the four Bureaus of
the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), in the Department
of Health and Human Services (DHHS), of the United States Public Health
Service (USPHS). As an integral part of the Bureau, the Office serves
as a "think tank" and advisor for the Bureau Director and
supports the Bureau's programs to facilitate program and policy development
for vulnerable women, minorities and other special populations at risk
for poor outcomes. In addition, the Office is a repository for up-to-date
information on health issues concerning women and ethnic/racial populations
and other special populations, and it serves as the federal administrator
of the HHS Academy at Eastern Senior High School for the purpose of
developing a model program to assist public high school students in
exploring health and human service related careers. This year the Office
was awarded the HRSA Administrator's Citation for Outstanding Group
Performance for an outstanding and specific contribution which has had
a substantial impact toward advancing the mission of the Agency.
