NOTE: All proposals to the AST Division must be submitted electronically using FastLane. General information for Principal Investigators can be found by clicking here. Additional information for submitting proposals can also be found in the  Grant Proposal Guide.  When you submit your proposal in FastLane, please notify the Program Director by e-mail.

1 November 2004: ATI - Advanced Technologies and Instrumentation

15 November 2004: "Mathematical Sciences: Innovations at the Interface with the Sciences and Engineering" (NSF 04-538)--(Section 2(b)) "Opportunities for collaborative work with mathematicians in areas of large data sets, managing and modeling uncertainty, and modeling complex nonlinear systems.

15 November 2004:Astronomy & Astrophysics Research Grants in the following areas:

  • EXC - Extragalactic Astronomy and Cosmology
  • GAL - Galactic Astronomy
  • PLA - Planetary Astronomy
  • RUI - Research at Undergraduate Institutions
  • SAA - Stellar Astronomy and Astrophysics

Proposers submitting to the 15 November deadline for Astronomy and Astrophysics Research Grants should specify that the proposal is in response to NSF 04-23 (the Grant Proposal Guide (GPG)). There is no specific program announcement/solicitation. In addition, proposers should select "AST-Division of Astronomical Sciences" and then "Astronomy & Astrophysics Res. Grants" as the organizational unit to consider their proposals in FastLane submissions, regardless of the research area of their proposal.

15 January 2005: Underrepresented Minorities Programs:

  • RPG - Research Planning Grants (NSF 94-147)

  • CAA - Career Advancement Awards (NSF 94-147)

20 January 2005: Program for Research and Education with Small Telescopes (PREST) (NSF 04-557). A new AST program to provide funding and modest operational support for modern, instrumented telescopes in the range of 0.5 to 2.5 meters aperture to organizations or consortia presenting an integrated program of research, student training, and educational programming. Date to be Announced: REU Sites - Research Experiences for Undergraduates Sites   

Proposers are encouraged to contact a Program Director in advance of submitting a proposal.

Warning: Proposals must be received at NSF by 5:00 PM the submitter's local time on the deadline date. If the deadline date falls on a weekend, it will be extended to the following Monday; if the date falls on a holiday, it will be extended to the following business day. Late proposals will be returned unread, with no exceptions. Please plan ahead; we are happy to receive proposals in advance of deadlines.
