The Product is generated by a data assimilation model driven by CORS ground-based GPS data, and is the result of a collaboration between
Space Environment Center and National Geodetic Survey.


The US-TEC product includes maps over the Continental US (CONUS) of

  1. The vertical total electron content (TEC)
  2. An estimate of the uncertainty in the map
  3. The recent trend based on the departure of the TEC from the previous 10-day average
  4. ACSII Data files of the vertical and slant path TEC
In the data files, slant path values specify the line-of-sight electron content to the GPS satellites in view at the time. This ionospheric product is designed to estimate the signal delay for single and dual frequency GPS applications. Note that TEC values in regions outside of the CONUS have no data and should be treated with caution.

Maps and data files are provided for today and yesterday. Prior to yesterday please go to NGDC.

The US Total Electron Content Real-time Specification is an experimental product. Evaluation will begin Nov. 1, 2004 and last until Mar. 22, 2005. We encourage your comments or suggestions for improvements using the electronic survey form provided. Your feedback will help us determine product utility, if modifications are needed, and whether the product should become part of our operational suite.
