Brief Method
Summary:
Levels of V. cholerae in natural waters and sewage are usually low and require concentration and enhancement procedures before culturing on selective growth media. Several Vibrio spp. can interfer. The method provides numerous presumptive tests to isolate V. cholerae. For a more extensive phenotypic characterization, a battery of tests listed within the method can be employed. Serological Identification - Slide agglutination with polyvalent antiserum is available commercially. Incubation Time: 18 - 24 h. Technique: Culture
