Brief Method
Summary:
Samples are collected in a sterile container and are processed as soon as possible after collection. The virus-containing sample is pressure-filtered through sterile microporous filters having large surface areas to which viruses adsorb. Viruses are then eluted from the surfaces of the microporous filters by pressure-filtering a small sample of eluent through the filters in situ. Technique: Filtration.
Scope And
Application:
Concentration of viruses in water
Applicable

Sample Handling: Collect sample aseptically in sterile containers. If the sample contains residual chlorine, treat immediately with sodium thiosulfate to a final concentration of 50 mg/L. Do not freeze unless sample cannot be processed in 48 hours; then freeze at -70 deg. C or lower. Sterilize all equipment.
Max Holding Time:
2 hr. at 25 deg. C or higher; 48 hr. at 2 - 10 deg. C.
