Research Project: Floriculture and Nursery Crop Production with Reduced Cultural and Pest Management Inputs

Location: Beneficial Insects Research

Project Number: 6204-22000-017-01
Project Type: Specific C/A

Start Date: Sep 01, 2000
End Date: Aug 31, 2005

Objective:
The objective of this cooperative research project is to optimize growing practices for ornamental crops that maximize crop yield and quality while minimizing inputs associated with crop production practices.

Approach:
Laboratory, greenhouse and nursery experiments will be conducted to: (1) study the interactions among crop inputs, crop performance, pest population demographics and population growth, and the performance of various pest management strategies; (2) assess how these interactions influence crop yield and quality; and (3) to develop implementation strategies that reduce overall inputs in the US greenhouse and nursery industry while maximizing crop yield and quality.
