Reclamation Installing "No Wake" and "Restricted Area" Buoys Upstream of Parker Dam

On Oct. 12, the Bureau of Reclamation, working in cooperation with the Arizona Game and Fish Department, began installing a line of "No Wake" and "Restricted Area" buoys across the Colorado River, upstream of Parker Dam's new security boom.

The buoys, in concert with the existing security boom, will help control boating access in the area upstream of the dam. As a result of this action, boating access to the public fishing dock at Take-Off Point will be eliminated. However, access to the launch ramp at the site remains open to the public.

The "No Wake" buoys will make the launching and trailering of water craft in the area safer.

Measuring 14 inches in diameter, the buoys are designed to meet standard Coast Guard requirements. During installation of the buoys, which will be completed the week of Oct. 18, there will be minimal interruption to the public.

Boaters caught destroying property or not adhering to the restrictions will be prosecuted to the extent allowable by law.
