April 28-May 4

Global Science and Technology Week (GSTW) celebrates the expanding opportunity for the world's best scientific minds to transcend national boundaries and collaborate on new discoveries and shared global problems.

The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy and the Office of the Science and Technology Adviser to the Secretary of State are working with private and public organizations to develop outreach activities for GSTW. The week is April 28-May 4, 2002 and highlights the international nature of science education in today's era of globalization.

Ask NSF
• Is it possible to create a time machine?
• How do airplanes work?
• Why are there wrinkles in the brain?
• How many types of atoms are there?

These are just a few of the questions that children, parents, teachers, and others asked of leading scientists and engineers during Global Science & Technology Week 2002 and, in prior years, during National Science and Technology Week.

We've archived the questions and answers, and now you can browse or search them for information. Visit our "... Asked a Scientist or Engineer" website at (http://www.nsf.gov/od/lpa/events/ask_sci/).
