President Bush to Nominate Brinker to be Ambassador of the United States to Hungary

President George W. Bush today announced his intention to nominate Nancy Goodman Brinker to be Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the Republic of Hungary.

"Nancy Brinker is a committed community leader whose efforts in the United States and around the world to raise breast cancer awareness have saved countless lives.  Nancy will serve with distinction as our next Ambassador to the Republic of Hungary," said President Bush.

Brinker is the Founding Chair of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation in Dallas, Texas.  She started the Foundation in 1992 and today the Foundation has 114 national affiliates and offices in Greece, German and Italy.  The Susan G. Komen Foundation sponsors the Race for the Cure, the largest series of 5K fitness runs in the world.  Additionally, she is a Member of the Board of Directors of US Oncology, Inc.  She served on the Presidential Cancer Panel from 1990 to 1992 and was a member of the National Cancer Advisory Board from 1986 to 1992.  She has received numerous awards for her work, including being named one Ladies' Home Journal 100 Most Important Women of the 20th Century and Albert Einstein's Sarnoff Volunteer Award.  A resident of Palm Beach Florida, she is a graduate of the University of Illinois.
