EPA was born almost 33 years ago at a time when rivers caught fire and cities were hidden under dense clouds of smoke. Since then, our dedicated, committed team of professionals, in partnership with state agencies, tribal and local governments, non-profit organizations and individual citizens, have worked daily to improve our communities and enhance the quality of life in our nation. We have made remarkable progress, but our mission to protect public health and the environment is a mission without end.

EPA Region 8 employs approximately 800 people in three locations: a regional office in Denver, Exit EPA disclaimer a Montana operations office in Helena, Exit EPA disclaimer and a regional laboratory in Golden, Colorado. EPA Region 8 was recently recognized as the fourth best place to work in the federal government. These results were based on the 2002 Office of Personnel Management Survey of Federal Employees, which was completed by over 100,000 federal employees. The survey rated 28 cabinet departments and independent agencies and nearly 200 subagencies on overall employee satisfaction and ten work environment categories including effective leadership, performance-based rewards and advancement, family-friendly culture and benefits. Overall, EPA was ranked as the fifth best Agency to work for in the federal government.
