Environmental Health Workgroup Initiatives:

In 1996, in support of the five objectives, the workgroup identified seven discreet initiatives of mutual importance. These initiatives were agreed upon with full participation from state environmental and health partners. The initiatives fit within the workgroup's four progrommatic areas of Research,Communication, Training, and Surveillance and include:

   • Symptomatic Children and Pesticide Exposure in Imperial County
   • Infants' Pesticide Exposure and Response to Vaccination
   • School Children's Pesticide Exposure in Yuma, Arizona
   • Surveillance for Non-Occupational Acute Pesticide Illness in Texas
   • Urinary Metabolites in Environmental Media
2. Pediatric Lead (Pb) Exposure Identification and Risk Reduction
   • New Mexico-Chihuahua
   • California-Baja California
   • Arizona-Sonora
3. Neural Tube Defects Assessment
4. Advanced Training
5. Health Alerts and Communication
6. Toxicology Center Development
7. Geographic Information Systems
