Ready for Reuse Determinations
|
EPA Region 6EPA Region 6 is developing on a new long-term corrective action "measure of success." It will be a new measure that recognizes when a site/facility has been addressed or remediated to the extent that it is safe for reuse or redevelopment. This is not intended to be a clean-closure approach, rather it encourages cleanups that will quickly support protective redevelopment opportunities. As part of this effort, EPA and/or the states will provide a regulatory "certification" that will be an affirmatory determination that the site is considered acceptable for its designated reuse. This "certification" will be called a Ready for Reuse Determination. The first of these certificates was issued July 2 at Sheffield Steel Corporation, Sand Springs, OK.
