An important OSP function is to foster relationships between ORD
and other organizations in the development, communication, and use
of scientific information. A key relationship is between ORD and
EPA's program offices, in which OSP coordinates ORD's support
to the programs in the use of scientific information in policies
and decisions. EPA's 10 regional offices also are important Agency
partners in science, and OSP manages several activities and programs
to address regional science needs. EPA
has a special relationship with the Native American tribes, and
OSP serves as ORD's lead office for addressing science issues in
Indian Country. Some environmental problems
may disproportionately impact specific groups of people. In the
area of environmental justice, OSP supports
ORD's relationship with EPA's National Environmental Justice Advisory
Council to better understand the distribution of environmental exposures
and risks across population groups. The Federal Technology Transfer
Act (FTTA) allows private industry and state/local governments to
access our Federal Laboratories to more efficiently and effectively
put federally funded technologies to real-world use. These partnerships
are not just important to ORD; they help define ORD's contribution
to EPA's mission, and shape the advancement of our research program.
