$15-million
to protect and restore Americas watersheds
The Targeted Watersheds Grant Program was proposed in 2002 by the Bush
Administration to encourage successful community-based approaches to protect
and restore the nation's watersheds. This competitive grant program provides
needed resources to those watershed organizations whose restoration plans
set clear goals and objectives with special consideration given to water
quality monitoring, innovation, a public education component and strong
community support.
Passaic River, New Jersey
EPA Awards $900,000
to Improve Passaic River Watershed
"This grant will provide the funds needed to improve water quality
in one of the most impacted rivers in New Jersey," said Regional
Administrator Kenny. "By taking a leadership role and developing
this new, innovative way of reducing pollutants in the Passaic, this coalition
will demonstrate that we can achieve great success when we work together."

Administration Commits $10 Million to Protect the Nation's Beaches
"These grants help protect public health at America's beaches,"
said Administrator Mike Leavitt. "The money we are making available
today will go a long way to helping states in expanding their water quality
monitoring and information programs that alert the public about potential
health-related problems in coastal recreational waters."
