Map of Africa highlighting USAID presence countries.

USAID currently has 22 bilateral field missions and 3 regional programs in Sub-Saharan Africa. The African Missions, Regional Economic Development Support Offices (REDSOs), and the Regional Center for Southern Africa (RCSA) provide vitally needed technical and programmatic support services to client USAID bilateral missions, government and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and private entities throughout the region.

REDSO staff manage activities aimed at such trans-national issues as:
· prevention of HIV/AIDS;
· promotion of inter-country trade;
· development of the private sector;
· prevention of environmental degradation;
· implementation of regional programs such as the Greater Horn of Africa Initiative (GHAI).

The Regional Center for Southern Africa is responsible for the implementation of the Initiative for Southern Africa (ISA). The RCSA works with bilateral missions and host country partners to support regional initiatives.
