The Air Pollution Training Institute (APTI) offers a variety of
training opportunities for air pollution professionals. There are
four types of courses available: classroom,
telecourse, self-instructional courses, and Web-based. APTI
also supports state, local and Tribal programs through special course
and workshop offerings and through the development of internal training
programs.
The curriculum of APTI can be divided into eleven categories of
courses: ambient monitoring, engineering, meteorology and modeling,
air toxics, permitting, entry-level training, inspections, sampling
analysis, compliance assurance, statistical analysis as well as
miscellaneous items.
On an annual basis, APTI currently provides training for air pollution
specialists in various parts of the country. Many of these students
are registered in the self-study program, and a growing number of
students receive training via the Air
Pollution Distance Learning Network (APDLN) of over 120 satellite
downlink sites located across the United States and Canada. Video
tapes of past satellite courses also can be used as self-study courses.
APTI strives to keep all courses in the curriculum up to date in
order to be consistent with the 1990 Amendments to the Clean Air
Act and other pertinent laws and regulations.
