Research Project: Mapping Genes Conditioning Low-Saturated Mid-Oleiclow-Linolenic Acid Oil & Developing Mg Vii-Viii

Location: Soybean and Nitrogen Fixation Research

Project Number: 6645-21000-025-39
Project Type: Specific C/A

Start Date: Oct 01, 2000
End Date: Sep 30, 2005

Objective:
To develop soybean varieties having less than 4% 16:0, more than 50% 18:1, and less than 4% 18:3 with agronomic performance similar to the cvs Boggs, Haskell, Benning, and Cook.

Approach:
Map the location of gene conditioning palmitic, linolenic, and oleic acid content. Develop Maturity Group VI, VII, and VIII soybean varieties that contain oil with less than 7% total saturated fatty acids plus less than 4% linolenic acid. Develop Maturity Group VI, VII and VII soybean germplasm and varieties that contains oil with less than 7% total saturated fatty acids, 30 to 55% oleic acid, plus less than 4% linolenic acid.
