Will FDA relocate some of its offices to a new campus at White Oak, MD?
Based on current funding availability, FDA plans to relocate the following
offices to the White Oak Campus.
- Life Sciences Laboratory (includes CDER Labs and CDRH Chemistry and Biological
Sciences)

- Central Shared Use I - 2005
- CDRH Labs - 2006
- CDER Office Expansion - 2007

- OC & ORA HQ Offices -2010
Is it true that CFSAN offices will NOT be relocated to White Oak?
Most of CFSAN was relocated to College Park, MD and will not be relocated
to White Oak.
Will parking be provided for employees?
- Employee parking will be limited to a ratio of one space for every two
employees.
- The National Capital Planning Commission approved the FDA White Oak Master
Plan based on the 1:2 parking ratio and will revisit the allocations after
the CDER offices open.
- There will be spaces set aside for visitors, car pools and van pools.
Are the environmental conditions at the 130-acre White Oak site acceptable?
- The Navy spent more than $30 million on extensive environmental investigations
to identify previous site contamination.
- With oversight from EPA and the Maryland Department of Environment (MDE), the
Navy worked to mitigate identified environmental contamination on the total
660 acre site.
- FDA has received assurance from the EPA, the MDE and the Navy that environmental
conditions on our 130-acre site are acceptable.
Will public transportation be provided to the White Oak campus?
- Public transportation will be provided by Montgomery County Ride-On and
Metrobus service.
- Express busses will be provided from any location where sufficient numbers of
employees justify express service.
- The nearest Metro rail station is in Silver Spring, approximately 15 minutes
from White Oak.
- Congress recently provided seed money to Montgomery County for an FDA transit
center.
Is there community support for the White Oak consolidation project?
Labquest, a community-based group that acts as a liaison for the parties
involved in the consolidation, holds monthly meetings with FDA and GSA representation,
community representatives, state and local public officials, and representatives
from the Maryland Congressional delegation.
