"Hands-on" field experience is provided using a variety of samplers and techniques. Students also will receive an introduction to laboratory analyses of sediment samples, computation of sediment discharge records, sedimentation surveys, selected methods for estimating sediment properties from surrogate technologies such as turbidty, and quality-assurance procedures other sediment-related subjects. Use of a prototype of the LISST-SL, an isokinetic laser scattering device developed throgh collaboration between Sequoia Scientific, Inc. and the USGS, will be field-demonstrated. Pocket calculators are required for some classroom work. Notebooks and extensive handouts will be provided. THE REGISTRATION DEADLINE DATE IS JANUARY 14, 2005.
