The strong magnetic properties of superconductors made it possible for
researchers to develop magnets for MRI (magnetic resonance imaging)
systems. NSF-funded research into superconductivity has
enabled advances in MRI technology, which, in turn, have led to more
accurate diagnosis of disease.
