‘Change' Congressional Democrats Can't Even Believe In

President Obama Made A Promise To The Middle Class …

President Obama: But let me perfectly clear, because I know you’ll hear the same old claims that rolling back these tax breaks means a massive tax increase on the American people:  if your family earns less than $250,000 a year, you will not see your taxes increased a single dime.  I repeat: not one single dime.” (Address to Joint Session of Congress, 2/24/2009)

But Congressional Democrats Leave No ‘Hope’ For Taxpayers:

Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-MD), House Democrat Majority Leader: “As the House and Senate debate what to do with the expiring Bush tax cuts in the coming weeks, we need to have a serious discussion about their implications for our fiscal outlook, including whether we can afford to permanently extend them before we have a real plan for long-term deficit reduction.’’ (6/22/2010)

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA): “You could go lower, too — why not $200,000? With the debt and deficit we have, you can’t make promises to people.” (6/22/2010)

Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-ND), chairman of the Senate Democratic Policy Committee: “I don’t think there’s any magic in the number, whether it’s $250,000, $200,000 or $225,000.” (6/22/2010)

Sen. Tom Harkin (D-IA): “I’m not hard and fast on $250,000. Quite frankly, it could be somewhat lower than that.” (6/22/2010)
