Republican Leadership Press Conference

 January 18, 2012

Participants:

 Speaker John Boehner (R-OH)

Congressman Tim Griffin (R-AR)

Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA)

Conference Chairman Jeb Hensarling (R-TX)

Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton (R-MI)

Congressman Lee Terry (R-NE)

Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV)

Congressman Marsha Blackburn (R-TN)

Chairman Hensarling:

“Three years ago this month, Barack Obama was inaugurated as our president. We were told that if we passed his stimulus plan, his health care plan, Dodd-Frank, that it would help our economy. And instead, we have our worst serial unemployment since the Great Depression. Millions more have lost their jobs in the last three years since he has become president.

“His policies have failed, it’s a new year. It was an opportunity to try new policies, and after studying Keystone for three years, 20,000 shovel ready projects just got buried.  Canada has energy and jobs that could be destined for the United States of America, and this administration has just decided that instead they should be destined for China. It’s a sad day for struggling American families who want jobs.”
