On Wednesday, November 30, 2011, the House is scheduled to consider H.Res. 364 under a suspension of the rules requiring a two-thirds majority vote for approval. H.Res. 364 was introduced by Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) on July 21, 2011, and was referred to the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, which took no official action.
H.Res. 364 would designate room HVC 215 of the Capitol Visitor Center is designated as the “Gabriel Zimmerman Meeting Room.”
Gabriel Zimmerman was a Congressional staffer who served as Director of Community Outreach for Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and was killed on January 8, 2011, during an attack at an event with Congresswoman Giffords in Tucson, Arizona. Zimmerman began his Congressional career in January 2007 as Constituent Services Supervisor for the newly elected Congresswoman Giffords and worked directly with the people of Arizona’s Eighth Congressional District to help them resolve problems with Federal agencies. Zimmerman organized hundreds of events to allow constituents to meet with Congresswoman Giffords while serving as Director of Community Outreach, and led the organization, planning, and implementation of Congresswoman Giffords’ January 8, 2011 “Congress on your Corner” event where the attack took place. Zimmerman was the first Congressional staffer in history to be murdered in the performance of his official duties.
