Bishop Votes to Rein in Power of Federal Agencies

January 6, 2017
Press Release

WASHINGTON – Last night, the House passed the Regulations from the Executive In Need of Scrutiny (REINS) Act, H.R. 26, which would require congressional approval for all major agency rules that cost taxpayers more than $100 million. Voicing his support for the bill, Congressman Mike Bishop issued the following statement:

“Our new Congress understands the frustrations of the American people, and the House has sent a clear message that the overreach we’ve seen out of the Executive Branch for the last eight years stops here. It is up to Congress to legislate, not federal agencies. That said, we must also do our part to curb agencies’ out-of-control rules and regulations, and the REINS Act makes that possible. Our Founding Fathers built a democracy for the people, and the REINS Act is an important step to restore the balance of power as it was intended.”
