Evaluation

Purpose 

Part of the Chronic Disease Prevention Section’s commitment to efficient and effective delivery of programs to improve health outcomes for Georgians in the areas of cancer, chronic disease, teen pregnancy, and heart disease and stroke has been the continued sustainability of the Reporting & Evaluation Unit. The broad goal of the Reporting & Evaluation Unit is to collect, monitor and use data to provide consistent and transparent evaluation of Chronic Disease Prevention programs and initiatives.

Resposiblities

Duties include:

• Designing, coordinating, and conducting assessments on approved programs and initiatives
• Developing methodology to gather needed information
• Establishing fidelity and outcome measures
• Providing outcomes data and producing audience-specific reports
• Conducting process and outcome evaluations of CDP programs and initiatives to determine reach, adherence to evidence-based and best practices, quality and effectiveness
• Working with CDP to build and maintain evaluation and performance management capacity
• Provides technical assistance and training to CDP staff, public health districts, contractors, and partners on program evaluation and monitoring, assessment, and strategic planning.

Effective program evaluation is a systematic way to improve and account for program actions involving methods that are useful, feasible, ethical, and accurate. The framework is a practical, nonprescriptive tool, designed to summarize and organize essential elements of program evaluation. The framework comprises steps in evaluation practice and standards for effective evaluation. Adhering to these steps and standards will allow an understanding of each program's context and will improve how evaluations are conceived and conducted. The framework is a template for designing optimal, context sensitive evaluations.
