Larson Votes to Lower Costs for Americans and Combat Climate Change

August 12, 2022

Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) voted for the Inflation Reduction Act, landmark legislation to lower costs for families, create millions of good-paying jobs, deliver the most significant action on climate in history, and dramatically reduce the deficit. The bill now heads to President Biden’s desk to be signed into law.

“Because of this legislation, millions of Americans will see lower health care and prescription drug costs, lower energy costs, and action on climate change,” said Larson. “Since I came to Congress, allowing Medicare to negotiate drug pricing to lower costs has been one of my top health care priorities. This legislation will make that a reality. More than a decade after Democrats fought to make the Affordable Care Act law, we are building on that achievement to provide lower premiums, which is another step forward in ensuring affordable and accessible health care for all Americans.

“This legislation is the largest investment in our nation’s history to combat climate change and will finally provide the action our country has demanded. I joined my colleagues on the Ways and Means Committee to expand green energy deployment and build upon that work with new, targeted incentives. The Inflation Reduction Act includes my legislation to support clean hydrogen, a critical industry for our environment and Connecticut’s manufacturing economy. Together, these policies mean more good-paying American jobs and a cleaner environment.

“The Inflation Reduction Act will deliver for middle- and low-income Americans by ensuring our nation’s largest corporations pay their fair share and does so without raising taxes on those making less than $400,000 a year or placing new tax burdens on small businesses,” Larson continued.

It’s a great day for the planet—and for Connecticut. The Inflation Reduction Act will invest roughly $370 billion in climate solutions over the next 10 years, accelerating the development of the clean energy sources, like offshore wind, that Connecticut needs to meet its new commitment of a 100% zero-carbon electricity supply by 2040. We thank Representative John Larson for his support of this historic legislation.” - Nathan Frohling, Director of External Affairs at The Nature Conservancy in Connecticut.

“The Inflation Reduction Act [IRA] will bring down costs for Connecticut residents who purchase health insurance from Access Health CT, Connecticut’s official health insurance marketplace,” said James Michel, Chief Executive Officer of Access Health CT. “We would like to thank our legislators, including Congressman John Larson and our other Congressional Representatives, Joe Courtney, Rosa DeLauro, Jim Himes and Jahana Hayes, as well as our Senators, Richard Blumenthal and Christopher Murphy and Governor Ned Lamont, for their support of this bill. They have been fierce advocates for the health of Connecticut residents and have helped Access Health CT raise awareness about the financial help now available to Connecticut residents immediately, and through plan year 2025. These inflation-fighting savings make a difference, not only in our residents’ wallets, but to keep them healthy today and into the future.”
