The Argonne Library System provides a wide array of web-based library information systems, as well as traditional research library services in support of the research efforts of Argonne National Laboratory's scientists and engineers. Library service is available at ten on-site libraries and each library supports one or more subject areas of interest to ANL scientists and engineers.

The Argonne Library System provides access to the library collection by non-employees in two ways:

  1. Interlibrary loan
  2. On-site library visits

Interlibrary Loan

The Interlibrary Access office handles requests from outside libraries for materials housed in all ten Argonne libraries. Requests are accepted through OCLC, fax, ARIEL, or through the mail. Interlibrary loan requests can be directed to:

Argonne National Laboratory
TIS-Interlibrary Access
Bldg. 203 CE-111
9700 S. Cass Ave.
Argonne, IL 60439

With the exception of book lending among other ILLINET member libraries, a fee of $20.00 will be charged for all interlibrary loan requests filled.

On-site library visits

Individuals whose research lies within the scope of the Argonne library collection and who have exhausted other local resources may request a library pass. Library passes carry the following restrictions:

  1. Visitors must be U.S. citizens;
  2. Library passes must be requested 24 hours or more in advance of the proposed visit;
  3. Visitor access is limited to weekdays between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.;
  4. In-depth reference service, literature searches, and borrowing privileges are NOT available to visitors;
  5. Visitors wishing to photocopy materials will be charged 10 cents per page. Payment must be in the form of a personal or corporate check.
