Creativity in Organizations: A Focus on Leadership

Faculty: Roger L. Firestien

Overview: Leadership is the most important factor in determining whether an organization grows to be successful, creative and cutting-edge or stagnates and dies. To lead organizations that produce extraordinary results, leaders need to do four things:

  • Develop skill to nurture their creativity and the creativity of people in their sphere of influence
  • Create an environment that supports creativity
  • Set the direction or focus the application of creativity skills
  • Nurture and renew their own creativity so that they can nurture it in others
This session is designed to increase participants' ability to become deliberately more creative, lead teams more effectively, and utilize a step-by-step process called Creative Problem Solving to solve organizational problems and capitalize on opportunities. This course is designed to teach practical creativity skills that can be applied immediately and produce results. When individuals are trained in Creative Problem Solving, they learn tools to develop and implement solutions to problems systematically and effectively. They can create ideas for continuous improvement and make breakthroughs in organizational performance.

Course Objectives: Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Shorten the amount of time it takes to solve problems and implement solutions
  • Evaluate and solve real organizational problems
  • Create a focus to achieve continuous improvement
  • Generate and effectively evaluate ideas in groups
  • Build ideas for action and successful implementation
  • Develop solutions to organizational issues
  • Overcome obstacles to create possibilities
