The following links will take investigators directly to three different (but complementary) assembled views of the human genome, together useful useful with browsing tools that provide a wide variety of annotations of the sequence:

Organizations

Genetics Resources on the Web (GROW) - seeks to provide an effective forum that encourages communication and collaboration among individuals interested in Web-based provision of high-quality information about human genetics, especially those aspects of human genetics dealing with health, to health professionals and the public.

National Human Genome Research Institute at the (NIH) including its ELSI (Ethical, Legal and Social Implications of Human Genetics Research) Program.

Human Genome Project (HGP) Information page by the Department of Energy features an extensive list of links on the HGP including the progress and goals of the HGP and information for educators and students. For the ethical, legal and social issues raised by the project click here.

Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Office of Genomics and Disease Prevention - provides public health professionals with current information on the impact of human genetic research and gene discoveries on disease prevention and health promotion.

The Human Genome Organisation (HUGO) - is the international organisation of scientists involved in the Human Genome Project (HGP), the global initiative to map and sequence the human genome. HUGO was established in 1989 by a group of the world's leading genome scientists to promote international collaboration within the project.

The SNP Consortium Ltd - a non-profit foundation organized for the purpose
of providing public genomic data. Its mission is to develop up to 300,000 SNPs
distributed evenly throughout the human genome and to make the information
related to these SNPs available to the public without intellectual property
restrictions.

The Council for Responsible Genetics - publisher of GeneWATCH, a national bulletin on the implications of biotechnology. Site contains testimony presented to U.S. Congress, position papers, and legislative clearinghouse.

The Human Genome Diversity Project - is an international project that seeks to understand the diversity and unity of the entire human species. Site includes their model ethical protocol for collecting DNA samples.

Educational Information

A Guide to Ethics and Genetics on the Web - maintained by Richard Sharp, Ph. D. of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences. Provides links to federal programs, articles and reports, funding, and discussion groups.

Genetics and Ethics Web Directory
- categories include online genetics-ethics literature, professors studying genetics and ethics, news and bulletins, plus other genetics-ethics resources. Site is maintained by Bryn Williams-Jones at the University of British Columbia.

Genomics: A Global Resource - presented by the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America - includes resources on the ethics of genomics, therapeutics, federal, state, and international genomics legislation, bioinformatics and news updates.

The Gene Letter a site with numerous links to online articles on genetics, eugenics, DNA patenting, gene therapy, and stem-cell research. This site also contains links to several policy statements and legislation. Published by GeneSage.

Report: Genetics and Human Behaviour- published by the Nuffield Council on Bioethics in 2002, this report considers the ethical, legal and social issues that are raised by research on behavioral genetics. It focuses on human behavior within the normal range of variation, looking at traits such as intelligence, antisocial behavior, personality and sexual orientation.

Genetics Education Center - University of Kansas Medical Center - this website is designed for educators interested in human genetics and the human genome project.
