Tailored Data Products (TDP) are extracts of data from the Federal Logistics Information System (FLIS), and are created according to the specific needs of our Government customers. The FLIS contains comprehensive cataloging data on all the items of supply procured by the Federal Government. Based on customer requirements, complete cataloging data or any part of it can be extracted and provided on various forms of output media. Working closely with you, we can jointly determine your data, format, and output media requirements. Our technological capabilities give us tremendous flexibility in handling data requests. We can provide TDPs on a one-time basis, or we can schedule your TDP to be produced at regular intervals (monthly, quarterly, etc.).

The Defense Supply Centers, Military Services, Civilian Agencies, other DoD affiliates and Foreign Governments are among the users of the TDP program. If you are not among these users but would like to obtain FLIS data, see the Freedom of Information page for further information.

The type of information available includes Identification Data, MOE Rule Data, Reference Number Data, Item Standardization Data, Management Data, Coded or Decoded Characteristics Data, Commercial and Government Entity (CAGE) data and Central Contract Registry (CCR) data. Data obtained through the TDP program is used to support a variety of functions, such as:

  • Technical support for various special projects.
  • DLA DEMIL review.
  • Engineering practice studies.
  • Database establishment/validation.
  • Tool development and item upgrades

Output can be provided to include specific data elements or Segmented data. See an example of TDP output. The various forms of output media available are:

3 ½ inch Diskette 4 millimeter tape
8 millimeter tape 9-track tape
3480 cartridge CD-ROM
Digital Video Disc (DVD) E-mail
FTP Hard Copy

All requests for TDPs must be submitted in writing to DLIS-VPO by completing these blank forms. Requests can be submitted by e-mail, fax, or mail (see below). The request must include:

  1. The requesters name, agency, address and telephone number(s).
  2. Data element(s) with Data Record Numbers (DRNs) to be used as input, and the specific criteria for the extract (see Federal Logistics Information System (FLIS) Data Element Dictionary, DoD 4100.39-M, Volume 12).
  3. Data element(s) with DRN(s) or Segment data to be output.
  4. The output media required (e.g., tape, cartridge, floppy disk, hardcopy,
    CD-ROM, File Transfer Protocol).
  5. A justification specifying why the data is required must also be included.

DLIS-VPO will review the request and contact you if additional clarification is needed. A technician will then develop and process the TDP and provide it via the requested media. Although most requests can be satisfied within a week, please allow 20 working days for processing.
