Senior Chief Bush enlisted into the U.S. Navy on 18 September 1984 and attended recruit training at Recruit Training Command, San Diego. Upon completion of recruit training, he attended RM “A” School at NTC San Diego, CA, which he completed in March 1985, graduating at the top of his class.

He reported in March 1985 to the USS Josephus Daniels (CG-27), home ported in Norfolk, VA for his first tour of duty. During his tour, he worked in the communications division and qualified as Watch supervisor. While assigned to the Daniels he advanced to RM2.

In August 1987, Senior Chief reported to COMCRUDESGRU 8 as a staff Radioman for Admiral Boorda. While assigned there he was re-enlisted by the Admiral for orders to C-7 technical control school and follow-on orders to London, England.

In September 1988, Senior Chief reported to Technical Control Supervisor School at NTC, San Diego. He completed this course as Honor Student in January 1989 and then reported onboard NAVCOMMU, London, England in February 1989. He was a technical control supervisor and Assistant Defense Communication Agency Officer. He advanced to RM1 in March 1992.

After his advancement to RM1, in March 1992, he selected an LPO position onboard the USS San Bernardino (LST-1189), home ported in Sasebo, Japan. Working as LPO, Departmental 3M supervisor, Antenna Control Petty Officer, and Technical Control Supervisor he completed a rigorous 3 years of forward deployed steaming. During this tour he earned his Enlisted Surface Warfare Designation.

In March 1995 he detached and reported to NCTS, Keflavik, Iceland as Technical Control Supervisor. Shortly after arriving he was selected for Chief Petty Officer and frocked in September 1995. Upon frocking, he was immediately transferred to NAVFAC, Keflavik to assume the role as Communications Officer. During the next 20 months he was the Department Head, CMS Custodian, EKMS Manager, and LCPO while closing the Naval Facility down after 31 years of service. Once the decommissioning was complete he was re-assigned to NOPF (Naval Ocean Processing Facility) Dam Neck, VA for duty as the LCPO of the communications department. He was selected for this tour to accompany his CO from NAVFAC Keflavik that was assuming the command of NOPF Dam Neck.

In March 1997 he reported to NOPF Dam Neck as LCPO. During this tour he was the EKMS Manager, President of the CPOA, 3M Departmental Manager, and Technical Control Chief. Upon completion of this tour he received orders to NCTS, Guam.

In January 2000 he transferred to NCTS, Guam as Communications Watch Officer. During this tour he was selected to go to TAD to Naval Satellite Facility Guam to assume duty as the Assistant Officer in Charge. In April of 2001 he was selected for Senior Chief Petty Officer. Upon return to NCTS Guam he was assigned as the department LCPO of the technical control department. He was also the President of the CPOA, Operations Chief, Tactical Plans Division Officer and Island Wide Navy Housing Officer

In February 2001 Senior Chief reported to Commander, Fleet Activities, Okinawa, and assumed the duty as LCPO and Security Officer for the Security Department. In June 2004, he assumed the duties as Command Senior Chief.

His personal awards include two Navy Commendation Medals, four Navy Achievement Medals, one Navy Unit Commendation ribbons, one Battle Efficiency ribbon, five Good Conduct Medals and various other service and unit awards.
