*NCI Research Funding Opportunities

The major portion of the NCI's budget is dedicated to funding research conducted by scientists in laboratories and clinical research centers throughout the country. The Institute also supports contracts for program development activities in diverse areas, such as drug development and information dissemination. Training, education, and career development of basic, clinical and population scientists at all levels of their careers is supported through a variety of mechanisms.

Research Initiatives by Type of Cancer and Research
The purpose of these announcements is to acquaint cancer investigators with the diverse opportunities supported by the NCI that address either general research themes or specific disease sites.

Clinical trials include studies for the prevention, early detection, and treatment of cancer; studies to improve the quality of life of cancer patients; and studies to modify cancer causing behaviors. Information on ongoing clinical trials for all types of cancer and information on advances in clinical cancer research can be found on the NCI Clinical Trials website.

*Training Opportunities for Cancer Researchers
NCI has many training programs to assure the continued development of well-trained investigators in the basic, clinical, population and behavioral sciences.
