MGIB - Montgomery GI Bill

ELIGIBILITY

The Montgomery GI Bill (MGIB) was enacted by Congress to attract high quality men and women into the Armed Forces. The program provides up to 36 months of educational benefits to eligible persons. Certain restrictions apply and are outlined in Title 38, United States Code, Chapter 30. These benefits may be used for degree and certificate programs, apprenticeship and on-the-job training and correspondence courses. The program is administered the Department of Veterans Affairs. An on-line MGIB pamphlet provides more detailed information.

Waiver Requests

If for any reason, a military member feels it is necessary to submit a waiver request concerning MGIB entitlements, they are advised to contact their local base Education Services Office. All waiver requests must be submitted in writing and go through the local Base Education Officer. Routing through the appropriate MAJCOM maybe necessary. Base Education offices should check with their respective MAJCOMs to see if this is required. All waivers are then submitted to HQ AFPC/DPPAT. The completed package will be forwarded to HQ USAF for final approval/disapproval.
