WASHINGTON – Making a difference is part of the legacy of the U.S. Navy, and that’s exactly the goal of the Naval Sea Systems Command in this year’s Combined Federal Campaign (CFC). On Oct 7, 2004, during the official Command CFC kick-off, Ms. Andria Post, director for Command Administration, and NAVSEA 2004 CFC campaign manager, motivated NAVSEA employees to participate in an opportunity to “Be a Super Hero,” by generously donating to their favorite charities through CFC.
In addition to Ms. Post’s welcoming remarks, Ms. Bonnie Flynn, deputy commander for NAVSEA Corporate Operations, and the NAVSEA ‘04 CFC vice chairman, stressed the importance of giving in the spirit of this campaign. NAVSEA employees have the opportunity to set the example of giving throughout the federal workforce.

The event’s keynote speaker, Vice Adm. Phillip M. Balisle, commander, NAVSEA, and this year’s NAVSEA CFC chairman, reminded employees how important it is to support the Nation during this current Global War on Terrorism. Balisle emphasized how the employees unhesitatingly give everyday at NAVSEA. He went on to say, “This time I’m asking you to provide a different kind of support – for the more than 300 charities and organizations represented under the umbrella of the Combined Federal Campaign.”

Balisle also told employees, “Last year, we exceeded our campaign goal of $850,000 and, this year, the goal has been raised to $855,000. There is no doubt in my mind about two things – one is that the Navy and the Capital Region depend a great deal on NAVSEA to set the standard for campaign contributions and, secondly, you have always been know to dig down deep in your pockets whenever called upon.”

Sandy Kline, activity chief information officer for Corporate Operations, and also one of the NAVSEA CFC campaign managers, closed the ceremony by asking employees to understand “the message our charitable contributions send to the many needy recipients and their families.” Kline also recognized the contributions of NAVSEA CFC key workers and team captains in meeting this year's goal.

CFC is the only organization authorized to solicit employees in the federal workforce on behalf of charitable groups. It continues to be the largest and most successful workplace fundraising model throughout the world. With a tradition of commitment to the community through the selfless efforts of federal employees, the

CFC has its roots in many charitable organizations and brings its efforts under one umbrella. Last year federal employees across the country raised more than $249 million for charitable causes.

Under the banner of a CFC slogan “You’ve Got The Power To Help,” NAVSEA CFC team captains, coordinators, and key workers look forward to the generosity and continued support of NAVSEA employees throughout this year’s CFC campaign.
